Devotional Recap:

Week 1 of 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting

Today we are talking about the concept and practice of fasting during a 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting. You will hear what fasting is, what it isn't, and how to approach it properly.

Key points:

1. Definition of Fasting: Abstaining from food, drink, or other activities (like social media, TV) to spend more time with God.

2. Biblical Examples: There are several examples including Daniel's 21-day fast, Esther's 3-day fast, Jesus's 40-day fast, Moses's 40-day fast, and Elijah's fast.

3. What Fasting Is Not:

- Not punishment

- Not meant to change God

- Not a mandate but a choice

4. What Fasting Is About:

- Taking eyes off worldly things to focus on God

- Humbling oneself

- Starving the flesh while feeding the spirit

5. Proper Approach:

- Should be done privately, not for show

- Must include spending time with God

- Should be approached with joy, not misery

- Should involve inviting God into the process

Bela emphasizes that fasting should be purposeful and accompanied by prayer and time spent with God, rather than just abstaining from something without spiritual engagement.

Reflection

As we begin our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting, let’s press in, asking God to show you His glory daily. Just as He took Moses from glory to glory, He will do the same for you as you pursue Him with boldness and a renewed appetite.
